Well if you like sports and are trying to figure out a way to break into the field to maximize your enjoyment and make a profit. Then this page is for you.

 

First lets look at the Industry. No mater what sport you like, each one provides a special niche. For all general purposes I am going to use Football. I am using football because that is what I know best.

 

So how do we make a website that can capitalize on Football?

 

 Well let’s take a look at some of the ways websites now are doing it. The Biggest thing is up to the minute information. Why is that so important? This is because of the gamblers. Now this is a grey area. The reason being betting on sport is illegal in most states. Except at the Casino’s. Now there are Off Shore Betting sites but with legislation the way it is there are rules about advertising those sites here in the US.  So how can we capitalize on this Billion Dollar Industry? The answer is Fantasy Information.

 

Basically with all the fantasy leagues out there. People are looking for information to decide who to start and who to sit. Its kind of funny actually because people like me, who play fantasy football and like to handicap football games this information goes hand in hand.

 

 

So now lets look at some similarities.

 

Fantasy Football:

 

Now depending on were you play there are different rules for each league. But the Basics are simple.

 

Each league will be made up of a certain number teams usually ranging from 6 to 12. Again some can be bigger or smaller. The bigger ones are more challenging. Each league will have draft for a determined number of players for each team owner.

 

Then over the course of the season but before the 16 game mark you will battle each week head to head in the stats category.

 

You will start a QB, RB, WR, TE, K, and a Defensive unit and you score points based on how well they do.

 

You are put up against another player each week and depending on how your team does compare to your opponents team does will determines a winner.

 

This is all done by who has the best stats for that game.

 

Stats are turned into points, and then the one with the most points wins.

 

Sounds simple right.

 

Now here lie the secrets on winning in fantasy football. Following the teams in which each player or unit plays on. This way you can possible spot talent before your opponents do. Most people do not have the time to research this information. If you put forth the effort sometimes you get rewarded.

 

Well if you watch ESPN Fantasy, they provide up dates that basically tell you who will have the best chance that week. They will pick a few different players in each position and tell you who to sit or who to start that weekend.

 

ESPN sport analyst basically looks at the player vs. the other teams. For example if you have 3 running backs on your fantasy team but can only start one then you want to start the one that is healthy and going up against a defense that is not very good against stopping the run.  Hence that player should have a better game than the others who might not be as healthy or going up against a stronger run defensive unit.

 

Confusing??? Not really if you follow the sport.

 

Now lets move to Handicapping…

 

Handicapping.

 

This is the science of taking all the variables that could happen during a game that will affect its outcome. They’re for being able to predict a winner or the final score of the game.

 

This is very helpful for you if you own a fantasy team even more helpful if you are betting money on the games.

 

Sports books, or legal gambling in a casino, set up odds based on this system. They are very good and clever at this. So lets look at some basics.

 

When gambling on a sporting event, the book-makers (people who set the Lines or the point spread for the game also known as Against The Spread or ATS for short) try to even out the competition by giving points to the weaker opponent also known as the Underdog.

 

So Lets use a recent game to show how this works.

 

New England Patriots Vs. Indianapolis Colts

 

NE was favored by –5.5 points. This means they had to give up 5.5 point to the Colts.

The Over Under or O/U for short was 57 points. This means you can bet on the final combined score of the game. Will the combine score be more or less than 57 points?

 

In this example the final score was NE 24 Colts 20 in this case New England won the game out right but lost against the spread. The total score was 44 so it was under the 57 points the line was set at.

 

So if you bet the colts to win with the points then you won the bet. Colts scored 20 plus the 5.5 points awarded to them gave them a new score of 25.5 if you bet the pats to win and played them to cover the spread then you lost.

 

 

Now that we got the basis covered here is where it gets fun.

 

The object to any website is to drive visitors. The more visitors you have, the more money you stand to make.

 

So what we want to do is tap into this market where we provide information to Fantasy owners, which will help them, choose the right people or team to play.

 

So In a sense you are analyzing the games based on information you will collect and post on your website to predict the out come of a player or a teams defensive stats. This means you will have to collect information on a wide basis. (This is the Time Consuming part)

 

Then organize the data in such a way that a Fantasy Owners can get to quickly. This way A FANTASY OWNER can get all the pertinent information for that Game to be able to predict the possible outcome of that contest. There for giving the Fantasy owner an edge in that weeks contest.

 

This can also be done for all sports as well. Plus, if you have knowledge on a particular team this will help out a lot. The object is to be able to predict a high percentage of games correctly. This way you can provide certainty in an uncertain world. For a recreational Handicapper if you can win 51% of the time you’re staying ahead. Season pros should be aiming for 60% or better. That’s picking 9out of 14 games a week.

 

You need to be objective and just follow the facts. If you can do this and not let your personal emotions or feelings get in the way of your analyst you can have a very bright future for yourself.

 

This will enable you to build trust amongst your readers and also you can open up dialect to further increase your readership. Then you build a huge list for your blog or newsletter and then the real financial possibilities are endless.
