A Life Lesson

I wish I knew then, what I know now

I wish I knew then, what I know now. Well I thought that a few times in my life. I think the first time was after I completed my first year in college. I looked back on my high school career and thought maybe if I had just studied more and did less partying, I would have done a little bit better in high school.

Then I was 25 and working at a dealership selling cars and thought why didn’t I do this right when I got out of college.

Then there was a time when I made my first big payday of 100k cash in real estate and said why didn’t I read those books back in college and start doing this before I graduated?

Now I’m 34 looking at my life and thinking how lucky the younger generation is. Why you ask? Technology.

Technology is a great tool. The invention of HD was a beautiful thing. But the most important invention was the internet. Unlike the real world, on the internet, you can do things for a lot less money. What things? Well, if your money orientated, making money. Yes, I am doing it again. I wish I knew then what I know now. So, for those of you who are reading this that are younger than 21 and still in college; or for those who couldn’t go to college but want to be educated on how to thrive in today’s small business world; listen up.

It is easier now, more than ever, to start a business. With technology, anyone can own a piece of real estate on the web. Gone are the days when you had to have a brick ‘n’ mortar store to be in business. Now we have websites. These websites are open 24/7 and are able to give people what they want, when they want it. All for a fraction of the cost of a real brick ‘n’ mortar store.

You can find information on anything or anyone. But sometimes with all this information you can get lost. One of the down falls of all this information is, you have to consider the source.

Since anyone can open a business or post information on the web, it is a lot easier these days to get bad information. Or worst yet, information you are not ready to receive. Some of life’s lessons are best figured out in time. While other lessons can be learned by those who know where to look and what to read.

I believe everyone should know the cards are stacked high against them. We have been conditioned by society to follow the status quo. Society has been trained to think a certain way and have been brained washed by commercialism. We are taught to go to school, get good grades, get a good high paying job, work 25 to 50 years, and retire. We put our money in the stock market and invest in mutual funds. We buy a house, have a family, and raise our children to do the same.

Well you want to know something? It’s all a lie.

The real secret is this:

1.     Start a business.

2.     Form the proper entity to get maximum tax benefits.

3.     Then sell the business or create new ones.

 Sounds easy? Great! Go get’em.

Need a little help. I can do that too.

There is a program that many people do not believe is true. Because we have been conditioned to think that the more it costs the better it is. Well on the internet that’s not the case.

On the internet simple is best. Websites that have a clean yet simple approach, while are easy to read and to navigate, work the best.

Information is the key! There is a book out there called The Celestine Prophecy by Robert Redfield. It’s been a New York Times Best Seller for years. In the book, they talk about the freedom of exchanging ideas and receiving payment in return. Now you can look at this idea in many different ways. But I feel the internet is the best way to do that. Basically getting paid by providing information.

Well people say information should be free. I agree 100%. Why should you have to pay for information? If you seek it and find it why should it cost you anything? But I believe you should have to pay for services rendered. So how do we put the two together? Use a website.

A website that provides information for free attracts lots of target people who are searching for that particular information. The more people you attract, the more other companies want to PAY YOU to get a piece of that traffic. Therefore, you can provide information to the public and get paid by companies who are looking for people who might be interested in their services.

Still confused?

Here is an example. Let’s say your hobby is fishing. Not just any type of fishing but surf fishing off the shores of Buzzards Bay Cape Cod. You know some things about catching blue fish. (I did this when I was a kid.) So how do you turn this into a money making website?

First you lock down the niche; which is surf fishing. Then you go deeper into that niche as specific as possible like surf fishing for blue fish off the shores of Buzzards Bay Cape Cod.  So a domain name might be www.Buzzards-bay-blue-fishing.com. You would write articles on the best spots to blue fish. Keep up-to-date information on when they are running. You can provide tips on bait, tackle, and other techniques used to catch blue fish. Put up maps on how to get to certain beaches. When are the best times to fish? You can also tell people how to catch blues without spending money on bait. Maybe even show pictures of you fishing and of the area and the beaches.

Now that you did that, let’s show you how to get paid for your efforts. It’s called monetizing.Get targeted ads on your site with Google AdSense. A simple way to place ads on your site that relate to fishing. Every time an ad gets clicked you get paid. That’s pretty simple. The next way is to use a referral system. Let’s say out-of-towners want to come and fish those spots for a weekend. You can collect their names, numbers, and days they plan on fishing and refer the services of hotels, boat charters, and restaurants. In return the people you refer to, pay you a finders fee.

You can even open a store and sell fishing supplies online and use an affiliate site to offer gear to your visitors. Then you take a commission on the sales. Then you can tell people about books that you have read that offer more information. You can redirect them to your affiliate site for Amazon and get a commission there too.

You can do all this by doing what you love and telling people about it by a website. Which I just checked is available for anyone living in the Cape Cod area.

So now that I just gave you a business idea to go out and do, all you need is the proper tools for the job. Which can all be found right here for one really low price. See, simple and easy.

Well that’s it for today!

Thanks
